What do you mean “our” journey?
I’ll get there.
This site is almost pure hobby. It’s a place to discuss my 40 years of experience, with people who either already are in the community, or want to be in the community. Maybe I’ll connect with some fellow cold-war Cherry Point jar-heads.
Notice I said, “This site is almost pure hobby.”
That ‘almost‘ is because of you.
I don’t know who are, but it’s likely that you are in the process of starting out in the techspace and you stumbled here because you were searching for how to get started in tech. Or maybe you’re a developer. Or you’re in “the business” and are trying to figure out “this devops stuff.”
Either way, welcome.
Welcome to my trainwreck of a blog. I’m not going to apologize for it, it’s a mess, and that’s a good thing … for you.
Why is my mess, good for you?
You know you need a blog, everyone’s been telling you that you need to have a blog. But you don’t have one.
And I get why you don’t. You haven’t found your voice. You don’t know what you want to write about. You don’t have an audience that as begging you to provide them content. You don’t know anything about blogging. You have some experience with content creation, but you haven’t been able to keep up with it. You have no idea how to setup WordPress, or Joomla, and 27 other excuses that I didn’t list here.
Any of this sounding familiar?
This mess is good for you, because, come on … you know you can do better than me. Anyone who puts 30 hours worth of study into word press is going to be doing orders of magnitude better than me.
I know where you are.
My site went down a 2 or 3 months ago because I wasn’t paying attention and let both my name registration, and my hosting expire.
I looked into doing my own hosting, and while my goal is to self host this blog, that’s not going to happen anytime soon.
I have a clue as to what I want to do with this site. It goes in 28 directions at once, at its main focus can be best described as, “ooooh, shiny”
Your excuses, just got taken away.
I’ve got a commitment to learn in public. The fastest way to learn, is to teach the tiny bit that you know to someone who knows a little bit less. I have a blog. You don’t. (Or maybe you do, but it sucks) Fix that, and then get better than me, faster than me.
I’ve got a lot of irons in the fire. I’ve got 2 teenage children, a fulltime job, and I’m going to school for my 4 year degree. I don’t have time for a blog. But I’m making time because I believe it’s important on a small ton of levels.
If you think you still have an excuse left, leave a comment and I’ll see what I can do about pointing you in the direction of either free resources, or on a path to steal some of your time back for yourself, because at the end of the day, it’s all about you, and moving your situation a little closer to what you want it to be.
If that’s not you, then cheer for us.
Maybe you have it all together. That’s awesome, thanks for stopping by. If you have a moment to drop a word of encouragement, or better yet, maybe a link to your launch-ugly story, that would be great. It will make a difference in someone’s life. Maybe mine, maybe someone elses.
Today and the future.
The site needs an overhaul just to get something that can be described as “less than a train wreck.”
The next couple of weeks is probably going to be all kinds of “inside baseball” as I figure out bits wordpress and other site hosting stuffs. (Or I don’t, who knows.)
Anyway, today, 25 September 2022 was a big day. My site is back up, running and accessible. It’s got a post that doesn’t suck, and the future looks bright.
Thanks for stopping by.
